First Impressions
The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me
- Musically, probably better than Deja Entendu
- Lyrically, not as good as Deja
- Production-wise, sometimes it is better than Deja, but sometimes it is a lot worse
- Two instrumental tracks? What is up with that?
- The titles are a little obvious for me (I’d rather titles that aren’t taken from the lyrics)
- Jesse Lacey sings with a British accent now? Hello, Morrissey?
- The gang vocals on Degausser make me want to cry they are so bad
- In some spots it sounds a little generic
- In some spots it sounds a little awesome
Final Thoughts
After three years of waiting, new material from Brand New certainly is refreshing, however the material do they supply doesn’t quite stack up against their previous releases. If you don’t take Deja Entendu into account, then the cd is quite good. Once you start comparing it to Deja, though, it falls very short. This isn’t to say I don’t like it and won’t listen to it non-stop, because I definitely will.
