Due to some computer shuffling at my house and dad’s office, I will be getting a brand new system for free. Here are the specs:
It should be pretty awesome, and it will be the fastest computer I’ve ever had, if only by 200mHz. I’ll be doubling my RAM and getting 80 more GB of storage. I’ll also have a dual-layer DVD burner, instead of single. I’ll be downgrading to onboard sound, but that doesn’t really matter to me, because I only have cheap speakers - not some expensive 5.1 surround sound system. All in all, I am very excited.
Thursday, February 2, 2006 was a great day. The previous day I had been accepted to the university I wanted to attend, and the great mood had carried over.
The day started off great when I told a girl my class that I had been accepted. It had been taking a while for me to get an answer from the school, and it took a while for her to get a decision as well, so she empathized with me I suppose. She asked me just about every day if I had heard, and her interest was starting to make me wonder just where her priorities were. Perhaps I was overanalyzing, but she is very taken and she seemed too interested in where I was going to college. I didn’t really mind, though, because I like attention that I don’t have to ask for. When I told her, I only said her that I had received a decision, so when she asked what it was, I told her they denied me. Her mouth fell open and she couldn’t believe what I had just told her. Then I told her the truth, that I had got in, and she was relieved. I wonder what she would have done if I was really denied. I wonder what I would have done.
As the day progressed, the goodness only increased. There is a Korean website called Cyworld that I am active on. It is most similar to Myspace in America, but it is really totally different. Cyworld has online currency called acorns, or ??? in Korean. With it you can buy things for your Cyworld page (aka minihompy), such as skins, songs to play in the background, or decorate your “miniroom”, which is just a room with a pixel art version of you in it. To get ???, however, you must have a credit card or buy certificates in Korea. As I do not have a credit card, and I do not live in Korea, I have relied on gifts to do things to my minihompy. So far it is very bare, so when I found out one of my Korean friends was going back to Korea to renew his visa, I gave him $20 to buy me one of the certificates so I could get some acorns. I gave him that money right after school, so it just added to the quality of the day.
After school, my friend Daniel and I headed back to my house to practice for the school talent show. We didn’t know it, but we wouldn’t be able to be in it, because we didn’t sign up or audition, so the practice was for nothing, but it was fun. Daniel is an amazing pianist and drummer, so he played my sister’s drums and our piano, and I played my guitar for about an hour. Even though we won’t be able to be in the show, it was fun just jamming with him.
Once I got to work at four, the beauty of the day simply increased when the prettiest girl at work said hi to me. Granted, the title “prettiest girl at work” isn’t all that hard to achieve, but I still blush whenever she talks to me. It appeared that she was having a good day too, because normally she isn’t that friendly. It really made me happy that she said hi to me though, despite the fact that I don’t like her as more than a co-worker.
After work, I had fun going to the movie Syriana with my friends Paul Coey and Daniel who I had hung out with earlier in the day. The movie was a blatant piece of propoganda from the ACLU. Okay, maybe not, but it so liberal that even I caught that it was slanted. Quite an achievement if you ask me. After the movie, we went to a diner and just hung out for a while. I ended up getting home really late, but it was a perfect ending to a great day.
I finally received a decision from the university I want to attend the most, and thankfully I was admitted. I had been looking at the same page for nearly five months. Each day I would log in, only to see the text “Deferred - Manual Review Required” in the place for the decision. They finally looked over my application, and today they posted their decision on the web. I am so relieved, because now I can make other plans, such as purchasing the tickets to Korea.
