West Point

Earlier this year I took the PLAN test. Basically it is the ACT, but for sophomores. My composite test score was 27 [out of 32]. I beat 99% of the nation in every area except for science, where I beat 95% of the nation. But this all is beside the point. On the test, you are asked questions about what you like to do, how much school you are planning on taking, etc. Colleges look at this information [and you test score], and from that they send you brochures, emails, and other things to try to get you to go to their college. I’ve got brochures from West Point, Marquette, Miami Florida, and I have received emails from Miami Florida, Yale, and a couple others. I’m not planning on attending any of these universities, but I just think that it is interesting because I don’t think I could make West Point or Yale with B+’s and A’s. It just goes to show that…well I don’t know, so you decide.

On to the rest of my life. Today in PE we had a basketball skills test. We had to make 2 out of 3 layups, and 4 out of 8 free throws. I only had 1 layup and 3 free throws. On Monday we have a written test over basketball, which should be pretty easy, given the fact that our teacher gave us a sheet with the questions and answers on them. It will be fill in the blank, and on the sheet he underlined the word that won’t be there. So I’ve got an easy A there.

All this week we’ve been having good weather, like in the 40s and 50s. Nice considering that last week it was in the teens. Me and my friends have started going back out for lunch. We usually go to Jimmy Johns, and we get the exact same thing. The guys there even know us, and sometimes they’ve got our order ready before we come in the door. Then we go to the gas station next door and get something to drink, cause drinks are expensive at JJ. I would consider working there if I had my driver’s license.

Last year me and another guy in my class created this thing called “pacemaking”. Basically we stick our cd player in our pocket, run the cord up our sleeve, and then listen to music during class by putting the headphone in our palm and leaning on it. We use the small headphones that have no plastic thing that goes around your head. Our cd player is the “pacemaker” and the cd is the “battery”. I haven’t done it much this year, but I did it a bunch last year. One time we got a bunch of people to bring their cd players and do it. It’s pretty fun, but I don’t learn at all when I’m doing it.

EDIT: I’ve been told that some people’s schools don’t really care if you use your cd player during class, but ours gets really mad and keeps the cd player and doesn’t give it back until the end of the year.

For Christmas, I treated myself to a laptop. It’s a Sony PCG-FRV37, for those who care. I’m dual booting WinXP and Slackware 9.1. Windows for the games, and Slack for everything else. I highly recommend Slackware for everyone interested in Linux. Even if you aren’t interested, go download Slackware! It is free and 100% legal. Your computer won’t crash, and you can do everything you can on your Windows machine, maybe even more. Back to the laptop. I’m still in debt $150, so I’ve got to work some to get that paid off. I went into Best Buy wanting to get a $1100 laptop, and walked out spending a total of $2000 because of warranties, tax, and the laptop was $1500. My dad wanted them to do some other stuff too, which probably wasn’t necessary, but I guess it doesn’t matter now. It’s got a 2.8GHz processor with 512MB of RAM, 60GB HD, and a DVD burner. Although the processor is supposedly as fast as my dekstop’s, it seems a bit slower. I don’t ever use my desktop, because my sister is on it all the time, and it really isn’t mine. Its more like my dads, and he lent it to me.

So that’s it for today. I’ll post again later today, or tomorrow. Whenever I have a spare moment. I guess I’ll go watch some tv, or read a book or something. Oh yeah, props to atomix for speaking of me in his blog. Check his out. I command you. l8tr.
